Wang Fuk Court Fires | 300+ dead & 100% caused by Corruption

The fires that engulfed the estate at Wang Fuk Court, Hong Kong on 26 November 2025 in Tai Po, Hong Kong that killed more than 300 people was a disaster that could easily have been avoided.

Corruption was the heart of the cause. With around 4,000+ residents who were effectively forced to pay out over HK$ 300 million (~US$40million) to have the exterior walls of the buildings refreshed we need to ask why the member of the DAB Peggy Wong was such a fierce proponent of the project and garnered like hundreds of Power of Attorneys from residents so that she could sway the direction of the vote on who to use for the refurbishment work. The phoney architect Will Power Architects Company Limited (鴻毅建築師有限公司) which has now ceased operation (December 2025) conducted an assessment of the contractor Prestige Construction & Engineering Limited” (宏業建築工程) and gave it a perfect score. However, even within public domains Prestige Construction has many labour laws violation and other reputation issues that were not included in the report. Will Power Architects went as far as to say the Prestige Construction had no labour law violations in the report. With the blessing of this supposedly independent report – the contract ended up being awarded Prestige Construction in 2024.

The police have since arrested some of the directors from Will Power Architect and Prestige Construction. Yesterday Peggy Wong and the other chairman of the Wang Fuk Court incorporated landlord that appointed the contractor Prestige were finally arrested by the ICAC (The Independent Commission Against Corruption) https://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/law-and-crime/article/3336821/hong-kong-fire-chairman-former-head-wang-fuk-court-owners-group-arrested

The issue is DAB are very close to the government and this party is effectively the branch office of the Chinese Communist Party in Hong Kong so they are virtually untouchable. If high-level arrests are not made, it is quite possible that there would be more civil unrest to come. The cosy relationship between DAB, the Hong Kong government and the communist party gives DAB a carte blanche to abuse their power and make illicit gains knowing that they have full immunity.

Moreover, the official numbers of 159 dead are wrong. On the day of the fires more than 200+ were missing and already around 30 declared dead.

Several important facts to note:-

All fire alarms for all blocks were deliberately turned off – we are not sure whether by the building management or Prestige Construction
All of the netting around the bamboo scaffolding were made in China and had safety certificates
